Shana Burg is the award-winning author of A Thousand Never Evers and Laugh with the Moon. As a professional presenter and former middle school teacher, she has spoken to more than 30,000 students of all ages. All presentations are aligned with TEKS, and include:
From Seed to Story–Shana shares how she immersed herself in the culture of Malawi, Africa in order to write Laugh with the Moon. Students listen to the music of Malawian children, take a video tour of an African hospital, and watch a demonstration of how children in Malawi make toys with found objects.
Civil Rights Now and Then–Students uncover why the civil rights movement is relevant today. Through photographs, newspapers, and civil rights speeches, students trace Shana’s journey as she researched A Thousand Never Evers. Great black history month presentation!
Shana also offers writers workshops that focus on narrative voice, the art of revision, and how a book gets made.
