Wondering how to get the best results from generative AI tools? Try my 4 Rs Framework.

Follow my SUPER EASY 4 Rs framework:

1. Roles
2. Reason
3. Rules
4. Result

Simple AI Prompt Using My 4-R Framework

Here is a sample prompt using the 4-R Framework:

  1. ROLES- Give the AI and yourself a role to play. Make the AI the expert.

You are an expert AI copywriter. I am the owner of Shana Burg Digital Marketing.

2. REASON – Explain why you are performing the task

I want a LinkedIn post that will showcase our service building an AI Powerbase, which helps thought leaders scale content in their own unique voices.

3. RULES – Tell the AI exactly what you need it to do.

First, suggest three LinkedIn post titles. I’ll pick the one I like best. Then draft the post and ask if I need revisions. If I do, revise according to my instructions.

4. RESULT – Tell the AI exactly what the output should look like.

The LinkedIn post should be 750 words and use three emojis.

Put It Together Like This

How well the prompt works can depend on whether:

  • You are using a free or a paid version of a Large Language Model
  • How well you’ve matched your task to the strengths of the LLM you’ve selected.
  • Whether your LLM has been trained prior to entering the prompt. If you have memory enabled, the LLM will be learning from all prior interactions.

How Well Did My Prompt Work?

I am quite happy with the result I got. This may be because:

  • I am. using the paid version of ChatGPT.
  • I chose to use ChatGPT for this prompt because I may want to add some links when I revise this post, and ChatGPT can search the internet.
  • I have been actively using this account for months, so the AI has learned from my previous conversations about how Shana Burg Digital Media serves clients.

The first time I ran the prompt, the AI only generated a 500-word post but I had asked for 750-words. So I gave it this message:

This type of firm language does the trick! I know it can feel mean but it really works.

Add More Information for an Even Better Result

Sometimes you don’t have time to write a longer prompt, and this will often suffice. However, when asking your AI to do a more advanced task – or if your AI has not yet built up memory through your use of it – try adding much more information to each of the 4 Rs.

When we build custom chatbots for our clients, our prompts are often 250-500 words. That’s the beauty of a custom chatbot, though. You only need to enter the detailed prompt once. Then you can reuse it again and again.
